Question:

How to Get Other Jobs

Date of Question: Feb 25 2008 | Question ID: 111133

Okay.
So I have been playing Final Fantasy Tactics for a couple weeks now. I have been trying to not just fly past it and forget about leveling up (because every Final Fantasy gamer knows that that is not the way to succeed).

I got Ramza at about a level of 15, with everyone else at levels 12, and Delita and a squier at level 6.

I am at the part where Algus and Ramza just split up, and Ramza and Delita are on their way to Fort Zeakdon to rescue Teta in the begginning of the game.

I do not need help with any battles or any of that.
What I want to know is, how do I get other people into my party?
Becasue, the Soldier offices will only let me buy Squiers. And I already have 3 Squiers, 2 Chemists, and Ramza and Delita.
But I have seen videos of people at the same spot I am in the game, with white and black mages and monks and all sorts of people. So how do I get them? Somebody PLEASE help me!

Oh,
And if nobody in my party can equip some armor, like chain armor or something, does this mean I just need to level them up tobe able to equip them?

The only way to get other characters is to buy them, but what your confused with is the jobs. You see how every time you attack or do a action your character gets JP and EXP. JP helps you 1: Get new abilities for the job that character is, and 2: Helps you get new jobs. Every time you meet a specific job level, you unlock other jobs. For example, the get a Monk you need a Knight with a Job level of 3, and to get a Knight you need a squire of Job level 2. To change jobs go to your part roster, select the character you want to change jobs, hit triangle to bring up the menu with Equipment, Abilities, and Jobs. Go to jobs and it will show all the current jobs you have unlocked, the ones your character can be being colored, and the ones he can not be being darkened. Just shift around to you see what you like and click him. Also, changing jobs does not lower your characters level, a character of level 12 will always be 12 no matter what his job is.

Equipment has nothing to do with level. Some jobs can't equip some things, for example, Knights can equip heavy armor and Knight Swords, while Squire can only equip Light Armor and normal Swords

Everything I tell you to do is between battles.

What you have to do to get new jobs has nothing to with buying more characters. Any character can do almost any job but only if he has the qualifications. For example, to become a knight, your character must be a level 2 squire (this is not the same as your general level rating but instead is specific only to the squire job. To see your level for a particular job, go into your formation, press circle twice and a list with your job possibilities for the moment will appear along with your level ranking for each job). To change to a new job, go into formation, click start, go into change job and select the one you want for that character (a mastered job will have a star over it. This happens when you learn all the abilities of a particular job). To purchase new abilities for any job, press start in formation, go into ability, go to learn, select a job and select what ability you want to purchase with JP (job points which are gained after every succesful maneuver in battle). All the new abilities you learn which have the lighting logo will be applied automatically if that job ability is set to your character and all the other abilities must be set if you want to use them (the bouncing arrow, the circle arrow and what looks like a foot). To set these abilities, you must press start in formation, go into abilities, go to set and for each category choose the ability you want. The first two are for special attacks (the first is set automatically and corresponds to your job choice for that character), the third is for what your character will do when attacked, the fourth is for between turns and the fifth is random (to get a description of any ability, press select on that ability). For the circular arrow, I suggest learning and setting the squire abilty gained JP up because it will greatly speed up your ability learning process.
