Is there anyway to go into battle in ultimate form(1player)? For example insted of gowing in with gabumon can I go in with wargurumon

No, you can only get the Mega levels of each rookie. Wormmon and Impmon are the only two who digivolve to Champion level. Season 3 Digimon go to the level in which they fuse with their tamers.

When going into battle you will start off with the character you chose at the character selection screen. If you pick Wormmon (Rookie) you will start off with Wormmon (Rookie) in the beginning of each battle but if you select Stingmon (Ultimate) in the character selection screen you will be Stingmon (Ultimate) in all of the battles. To unlock The Ultimate level characters you need to complete the game using that ultimate's rookie form. Another way you can unlock the ultimate forms is to simply enter in the passwords in the password screen.
