I have 6 villagers putting lagoon water into the feild. How long will it take to get the flowers to grow?

In my case it took a day (real time) to complete.
How I did it:
I had plenty of food, so I manually set all my adults on watering the field about 3 - 4 times. After that I let the farmers go back to their regular jobs and remained putting the rest of the adults on the field to water it.
After about 15 - 20 minutes several adults had learned to water the field by themselves.
I quit the game and came back a day later to find the garden in bloom.
