To get pixy dust play with the shugar plum fairy box.....
To get toadstools sit on the toadstool chair wait for a popping noise.....
To get dragon tears tickle the pet dragon alot.....
To get dragon scales groom the pet dragon alot......

You can alos have your adult sim travel to a Magic Town lot and purchase the item and then add it to the bookshelf that stores magic items (download it at thesims.com), and them have the kid take it from the bookshelf.
