I'm trying to catch the theif in Chloe's farm/garden thingy....I know I need to dismount my horse to get into the garden and I've found answers about what to do once I'm IN the garden..BUT....how do I dismount? I can't seem to find any help for this

You have to make sure your horse is on the path, it's just a matter of positioning him right then press the right Ctrl on your keyboard - if it says "i can't dismount here" move about and keep trying.
