I chose a lightning sorceress, because I like to be unique, and it's proved to be very fun. Overall, I'd have to say that and ice sorceress is the strongest, but the fire sorceress can be competitive as well.
Most sorceresses that you see nowadays will mostly be ice sorceresses. No matter what sorcerss you choose, make sure you always get these abillities: teleport, warmth, chilling armor (or shiver armor), and energy shield.
These are essential for the sorceress, but you don't need to put too many in each ability.
Maybe 1 in teleport, 3 or 4 in warmth, 2 or 3 in the chilling armor, and about 2 or 3 in the energy shield.
I personally liked the lightning sorceress ability, and the lightning sorceress has the capability of inflicting the most amount of damage with her abilities than any other character in the game.
Her chain lightning, fully upgraded (lightning mastery) can inflict 1-1750 damage.
However, lightning sorceresses damages vary so greatly that an attack could do a pitty 1 damage or a whopping 1750 damage.

1. They all are very powerful. In my eyes, I would choose an ice Sorceress. It will crush Diablo (Diablo is fire).
2. For an ice Sorceress, put all of your stat points in Blizzard and Frozen Orb.

1. Lightning because there extremely fast for rushing people.
3.Offensive and combat, the skills that you need maxed out are holy sheild,zeal,fanticism,sacrifice. For stats make strenght dexterity and vitality your highest stats and only put like 20 points into mana.
4.sacrafice,zeal,holy sheild.

1. I personally think an Ice Sorceress is the best.
2. Put stat points into the first frozen orb spell at lvl 6 or 12 (i can't recall the name at this point. Also into Glaciel Spike, the 2nd frozen orb spell at lvl 30, blizzard and Ice Mastery.
3. As a paladin you should have a mix of all.
4. For Offensive raise thorns and holy fire. For defensive raise prayer and redemption. For combat raise holy bolt, blessed hammer, and fist of the heavens.
P.S. "http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/" has a lot of info on Diablo 2 including: monsters, items, strategies, etc.
