It automatically becomes your spirit. You even get the card of the spirit. (For example, if the spirit you got is Jelly Beans Man, you get the card Jelly Beans Man). If you don't like your spirit, you can always turn the game off and go to the dried well again, of course.

You can also return to the well, abandoned dorm, eastern part of the island, and the power plant at night to find other spirits, if you want to get more cards or other spirit abilities.
