I'm a muppet!
I know that I have to dig for rocks to make the chef's new fire pit and to spell SOS on the beach, but, how do I dig? I don't know how to use my spade or where to dig. Can someone please help x

You can dig just about anywhere by tapping your sim, a little menu will pop up, tap the word Dig and your sim will find all sorts of buried stuff.

Once you finish the tasks for mrs weeder, she will give you the both pieces of the spade. Then you need to go to the crafting rock on the beach and put it together. I don't remember if it shows what you'll get or if it's one of the question marks.
After that, dig around the sos area, around the clothing station, and just about everywhere else you want. To get your sim to dig you need to click on the sim itself and "dig" will be one of the options.
