I'm at the first island. I don't know how to get the key from the rat. I've been trying for awhile.

Just push the block in the middle of the two holes and wait for him to come around and hit him for behimd.

You can push the block in front of one hole, then you have to move just outside the room and wait for the rat to come out, then just attack as quickly a you can. Takes a few attempts, but keep at it.
