Question for Super Mario 64 DS

How do you unlock the double doors at the top of the stairs at princess peach's castle on Mario 64

First you have to unlock the 2nd bowser fight in the basement which is through the wooden doors inside the castle. After you defeat bowser he will give you a key, that key unlocks the double doors at the top of the stairs.

U have to have thirty stars then go into the basement and unlock the power star door with your thirty stars and complete the first dire dire docks the go in there again and there will be a chimney. Go down it and defeat bowser by swinging him into a spike ball. Then- voila! You have the key to the upstairs room.

Now I'm not sure for certain but I heard you defeat bowser in the second fight in the basment then he gives you a key to the double doors at the top of the stairs in the castle.
