This is not an easy question to answer. Those of you who consider yourself "experts" will probably be stumped. I am an expert and I am completely lost. Well, I have 149 Stars. Yes, one away from all of them. Multiple internet sites say that there is a star where you get eight red coins from the ghosts in the courtyard. None of the ghosts have 8 red coins, so I checked more sites. They say that that star will dissapear if you don't get it soon enough, and talking to one of the Toads that give you a star will give you another one. Well, I have tried this multiple times, and I'm still at 149. A TRUE EXPERT PLEASE HELP!!!

There IS a star in the Boos in the courtyard. I got it pretty early in the game, though. I used Mario, and it was easy. Maybe you have to get it early in the game, or maybe you need to use Mario.
Toad gives you three stars and you do get a star in the courtyard.
