I'm having the exact same trouble. Perhaps when you get to the 2nd Generation they all clear away and you can go into them then. I'm not sure though, I never really figured it out either

the-cookie-monster answered:

Basically you can't get past the statues and gates during the first generation, however, during the second generation the child (who is smaller) can slip past the gates, and if you approach the statues it will usually tell you to either - defeat a monster, give it an item, or plow some land. Once you've completed it's request the statue will disappear and you receive a stone tablet with earthscript on it which Barrett will help you decipher. Your objective during the first generation of the game is to get married and prepare for the next generation. Note that in the second generation your tools, backpack/fridge/shelf items, level, field crops will remain the same, however, the village people's love and friendship points will reset. But I recommend you still raise their love because you can get wood from their requests and you'll need ALOT of that in the second generation.

Stevenpower answered:

Well, that depends. If you are in the first generation, Kyle does not have the knowledge to read the writing on the statue, but if you are in the second generation, Arian your daughter, or Aaron your son will be able to read the tablet. Each statue contain a riddle that you must solve. After you solved the puzzle, it will disappear.
