1. Lower the Legendary Pokemon's HP as low as you can. False Swipe is a good move because it will lower the Legendary Pokemon to 1 HP without making it faint.

2. Either make the Legendary Pokemon Paralyzed or Asleep.

You might try to use Ultra Balls. If the Legendary Pokemon is found in a cave, Dusk Balls are helpful. Quick Balls are always useful if used on the first move. Good moves to use are Fury Swipes, Fury Attack, and False Swipe. Keep in mind that moves that give the foe status problems are useful such as Thunder Wave or Yawn. Do not use 1 hit KO moves such as Sheer Cold or Feint. Also, first use a very effective move to inflict very much damage, then use moves that aren't very effective to gradually decrease the foe's HP. For example, if you are trying to catch Heatran, use a Water-type move. Water-type moves will inflict major damage. Then you should use a Grass-type move because it is not very effective to either of Heatran's types.
