Question for Pokemon Platinum

I am trying to save my son's game of Pokemon heart of gold. It doesn't let me. It says already exists and then tells me how to delete. (select UP and B button) but that doesn't work.

At the title screen (not the menu) press and hold Up, Select, and, B. All three must be pressed together. The game will then ask if you want to delete the save file.
