The code won't mess up your game if you have code manager (copy and paste).If you typed the code in manually,there's a possible chance you will mess up the code which can lead it to not work.Code won't harm the game if manually typed correctly or copy and pasted and actually works;while if it didn't work,it wouldn't mess up your game except it might corrupt which has like a 7 losing data but don't worry,just stick to familiar codes from trusted websites and tested codes to avoid any damage on your game and sometimes,codes might not work with other codes turned on so you might wanna disable all other codes if you try one that was proven tested and works.

I've never heard of it doing anything to your game but I guess if it is put in wrong it could crash the game. In which case you would turn the ds off and on again.
