Is this a glitch or something and has this every happend to you while battling a tranier. If so I'm never battling that same tranier again.

The DS' Battery DOES wear out after a while. Charges are worth less and less time. Sometimes, you don;t get a red light warning either. It has nothing to do with the game, that's assured. If you bumped the DS on something or possibly rubbed against the power button, that could also be the issue. And if you were using an Action replay or Gameshark, they tend to do odd things to your game and system sometimes.

If it happens again, contact customer support.

To me it seems you accidentally pushed the power button. Remember what were you doing when it turned off and maybe that was the reason. If it keeps happening, I suggest you to change the battery (with ninendo support service's help!) or buy a new DS(if you can and want to do so). hope this helps!
