Question for Pokemon Black

How do I use the Xtranciver, or HOWEVER it's spelled? I'm so confused. My friend came over, and we tried the Xtranciver (she wasn't registered in my Pal Pad). Then me and my brother tried (he was registered in my Pal Pad). And it STILL won't work, and we're not using Wi-Fi. I need an answer A.S.A.P!

I think ya need to click on IR on the c-gear and then click on friend code then yr xtransceiver should work
