No. Gold and Silver were 2nd Gen games. Platinum was a 4th Gen game. Black and White are 5th Gen games. Meaning whole new location, whole new Pokemon, and whole new adventure. Can't even be traded with the previous games.

Nope, Pokemon Black and White are completely different to the other generation of pokemon. It has a whole new region, new Pokemon, new graphics and new storyline. So basically it's just like no other Pokemon games has been out and this is the first one to come out.
