Question for New Super Mario Bros

I've completed levels 1-5, however, when I go back to the game, some of the coins have disappeared and then I have to go back to the levels, and get the coins again...why? Can't I prevent this from happening? If so, how?

So you asked why your coins keep going away after you turn your d.s off right? Well the answer is... Because you have to save it. And on some games they don't let you save, that is why they keep going away.
