No just defeat the boss by jumping and pressing down over his head with either character.Gamer 2.0 answered:
The only way is to beat the desert boss as mini mario and the world 5 boss as mini mario.

You will have to beat world 2 with mini same with world 5 or be luigi
To be luigi before you pick a file you held the right and left stick at the top of your DS. Good luck from rocklee_leaf..
