Stairs

I have heard that you have to be come a ball to get up the stairs in the obseratory.
How do you become a ball?? Or learn how to do it??
Please help I have been stuck on this for 2 days now.

You learn after beating sunnycide and going back to the castle. You see 2 guys making princess peach laugh (baby) rolling into a ball and mario and luigi will want to learn.

To be more detailed:
First, defeat sunnycide. when you return to the castle, go to the large lawn. you will see toadsworth(both of them) trying to make the princess happy. They will then teach you the move.....youll see.

Well,
1. You press the are button and at the top right corner of the screen the thingys will change.
NOTE: you cannot do this while being in piggyback position.
2. Press the A button and Luigi will hop onto Mario's back.
3. Press A again and you will start rolling in ball form. Control the direction of the ball with the control pad.
4. Press the A button to be normal again.
NOTE: you must press the are button again before juming to hit the block or you will become in ball form again.
