When you are still holding A when you are turning corners, hold L and press left and right alternatley. When the sparks are blue do it one more time and the sparks will turn red. Now you are doing it right.

First make sure you're at a corner. Next you press and hold are and keep on pressing left and right until your tires burn and red flames appears. Then after you see red flames on your tire you let go of are and keep on driving. You should have made a mini turbo boost (which is called power sliding).
