Yes, as a matter of fact I can help! You do DS Download Play on main menu of non-owner of MKDS's DS, but I must warn you, it takes a little longer to do that than if both have MKDS, and the downloader has to be a random shyguy, WITH OUT CHOOSING HIS/HER OWN COLOR!!! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Haha...ha...ha..ok, ok, I'm done...ha.

Yep, you can indeed play 2 players if only one of you has the actual game. In fact, I'm pretty sure that up to 8 players can play even with only 1 person having a game! All you do is go to download game on the startup screen when the other person is ready, and there you go.
