Whenever in the DS Download Play option, the Mushroom and Shell Cups are the only one's available for Download Play only. Whenever 1 or more players use DS Download Play, he/she cannot change his/her character. It always stays the same, but a different color might be used. Hope this helps you out.

No and no. You have have to play multicard with both having unlocked all courses to play all courses, and a downloader always plays as shy guy.
