I am very new to this game and have no background with the other HM games either, so any help I can get would be great. It seems like, to me anyway that I should be able to answer questions and talk to the people in the village. Is this something that is possible or am I just misunderstanding how the game works? Thanks!

the only time you ever get to answer the questions that the village people ask you is when you trigger a cut scene and the affection and friendship that you gain after the scene is affected by the answers you choose to give them. for example, the lady with the glasses up in the dig site, if you go into the dig site at about 10-11pm at night, you will trigger a cut scene and depending on what you do, how you answer her questions, etc, it can end up with you getting beaten up or walking her home. she says "who are you?" and you get a choice to either stay and watch for a bit or get up close to her. she will beat you up if you get close haha sorry if i make no sense. :3
