Question for Digimon World: Dusk

I saw many people say to get aptitude up, you need to degenerate, then digivolve it again. But that seems like it wouldn't do anything at all. Do you need to train the degenerated digimon at all, or can you just degenerate then, without doing anything else, digivolve again? If you can't tell, I haven't gotten the game yet. I am getting it on Monday, and am looking at a few things to see how to do things better. Also, for the digi-eggs, I saw we need to look over Wi-Fi to find someone to breed with, but what if we have a friend we see, but don't have access to Wi-Fi? Can we just connect to them if we are within, like, 5 feet or so, then breed that way?

After degenerating, the digimon's level will reset back to 1, (but aptitude is increased). You will have to level it up again to digivolve, and after digivolving (as always), the digimon's level will also be reset to one.

Apart from this though, you do not need to level up the digimon, as this won't increase the aptitude anymore. (Although it will have better stats the more you raise it), stats go down after degenerating, but will be higher than before after digivolving again.

Not sure about the wi-fi question, but pretty sure that you can't even if they are that close to you.
