Lost Odyssey is another role-playing game based on 1000 years of memories experienced by immortals from another planet. Their planet and the world of Lost Odyssey share the same axes and a leak in magic energy, energy within all living organisms, has linked them together. You find yourself regrouping the band of immortals to uncover many mysteries that unfold as each member slowly regains their memory. Each member of the group, immortal and mortal, has their own special abilities and skills that complement youre fighting strategies and influence the winning or losing of the many tough boss battles. This is an in-depth RPG with epic fight battles and long, addictive cut scenes that create a new factor of feeling you are playing within a movie.
The graphics of this game are outstanding and compared to other games on the 360 platform have come closest to being realistic. There is a lot of attention to detail within every aspect of this game. The characters are immaculate, each with their own personality and unique dialog. All of the maps have their own distinctive environment with the vast creatures matching their looks, skills and spells to the surroundings. I wondered why on earth a game would need four discs but once I started playing and getting involved I was wondering why there werent more.
The sound has been developed so that it doesnt interfere with the game play but is there as a good background setting. As the story line is very long it is acceptable to hear the same music throughout different scenes, but as expedited does get a bit tedious. The voicing of the characters however has been done really well. The voices feel that they should match the characters they are voicing.
In Lost Odyssey the majority of game play is done within the battle scene, but if you choose you can use your time to explore the large maps, revealing and solving the many side quests that aid you along the way. The fighting style is that of a traditional role-playing game where each character from both sides gets one turn per scene. The power and timing of the character will determine what order that character will attack. This game is so large that I dont think the creators had enough room to develop an online multiplayer platform.
This game has taken me around forty-five hours to complete. This is just the basic story line however so there is many more side quests to be down which will clock up the hours a lot more. The whole forty-five hours were enjoyable and I actually wanted to play rather than just finish the game and get the achievements. So this game does have a huge lastability and enjoyable factor and I believe that it will provide hours of enjoyment for others. The only aspect that may degrade the lastability of Lost Odyssey is that it has no online multiplayer.
Overall this is an excellent introduction into the role-playing world, especially coming from a traditional first person shooters point of view. This may bring up the factor of lack of experience and therefore my opinion may be biased, as I cannot compare this game to other big titles such as Final Fantasy. However in my opinion this is an outstanding next generation game that provided hours of battles with intense graphics supported by numerous enemies and environments. I easily let myself get immersed into the world of Lost Odyssey.
