I have got matches, a wooden mallet, a fish bowl and a piece of paper I found in the portrait.
 What can I do next?

You can break the piggy bank with the mallet.
Get wood from I front of the shed and chuck that in the fireplace and start a fire.
For the birds go into grandpas bedroom and you will finds drawing of a car with four wheels, the white bits are at the angle each of the birds should be. To unlock the gargoyle room you need to have unlocked the passage in the bathroom you can use the fuse you got from the owls to activate the door (through the door is the gargoyle room).
This isn't all you asked but I hope this helps.

To open the passageway of the tree, you need to open the thing on the stairs with the tiny keyhole. I think you get the key from the shed.... Then you will get a long pole. Stick it in the hole of the tree trunk and there will be a hole with a ladder. Go down and you'll see a round table thingy with symbols round the edge. Get the symbols from the chest in the attic upstairs. Press the four symbols from the chest into the table thingy and then press the middle. Hope that helps!
