Will saplings grow in different areas?

My house is in a roofed forest biome, but I've found spruce by exploring a nearby mountain. If I plant the spruce saplings near my house, will they still grow, even though they don't spawn naturally in my area? I like to use different kids of wood but having to walk for a day just to get to the spruce is annoying.

They should grow with no trouble. I think only jungle wood is really biome-specific (it will only grow in a jungle biome).
