Question for Minecraft: Pocket Edition

I was playing minecraft pocket edition when I finally found diamonds. However when I broke the diamond block no diamond came out. Can someone help me?

Depending on what tier of pickaxe you are using it will only mine certain blocks e.g. Wooden Pickaxes will only mine Stone,Coal,Furnaces,Cobblestone and other stone related blocks, but the ore range is limited to coal only. If you used a tier lower than Iron it would mine the block but there would not be any drops.
