Chao evolution

So I hear Chao undergo a second evolution. What I want to know is when do you start giving them the animals/drives to do that? Do give it to them BEFORE or WHEN they're 4/5?

By secondary evolution I think they mean rebirth. Like this

V ----->pink cocoon-->rebirth into egg|
Egg-->child-->adult|
----->gray cocoon-->death

If you don't want your chao to die then, make it happy, treat it nicely and don't abuse it. But if worst comes to worst then if it turns gray cocoon then exit that certain garden and re-enter it till the cocoon turns a different color

No, I don't mean rebirth. I mean the second evolution, of which there is no cocoon. In order to make a Shadow Chao, for example, you have to raise it as a Dark/Run type. Then, at some unknown time, you have to give it more Green-Class Animals/Chaos Drives for the stripes to turn red and a few other tweaks and then your Shadow Chao is complete.

They do, but it has no cacoon. Once an adult chao turns 3/4 years of age, the types of chaos drives you give it will start to affect it's color, shape, and ability's. People call this the second evolution, but I think it is a mere change. You are defenately not the first to ask this question

Really the second evolution depends on if it's hero or dark if it's dark it becomes a demon chao and if it's
a hero it will be come a holy ghost chao
or some times sonic/shadow or Knuckles/Rouge or Tails/Dr. egg man but it's usually a Holy ghost or demon

The "second evolution" accours around ages 3-4, after the chao has evloved once. All you have to do is give it a bunch of animals or drives, and it will gradually change.
