Well when computerd get home runs it's ussually at random times but when you are in the lead the chance for a home run for computers gets higher. Plus star cup is just anyoing. Well as for team mates try puting speed team mates in the out field and put people who are freinds to each other in the infield.Just keep trying and once you have Waluigi use him to pitch or if you don't just use mario. And as for Luigi he can jump high to stop a home run so when your a head put luigi on the left out field whrn the computer is left handed and put luigi on the right when the batter right handed. I hope this helps it worked for me

Try using some different pitching techniques. Sometimes in Special Cup (I don't know about Star Cup I havent played it in about a year) if you throw fastballs that curve and just barely make the strike zone the CPU players won't pick up on it for a while. Throw in inside strike (fast) then one to the outside, then a changeup or something else like a blazing fastball outside. Hope this helps, it might not work on Star Cup. Also, you should seriously consider getting Waluigi as your pitcher this technique works best with him and Luigi.
