I have Martha at two hearts. I handed her yarn, not wool. I made sure. And she just took my yarn. I now realize I need to have a cutscene, and I can't trigger that.... How do you trigger that cutscene?

That's because Martha has to be at 3 hearts to expand your rucksack. After you get 3 hearts, there will be a cutscene where she will tell you to bring yarn.
