I'm at the stage were my character is getting old and her son is almost an adult but when I save the file it says year 1. Is there like another generation or something? Whats year 2 like then?

I believe that is actually a glitch. It can't possibly still be the first year since your characters have aged and your child is nearly grown. Its a glitch that is on every HM:AWL game, I got confused by it myself too :]
