She owns a club in Night Babylon called 'Club "Rouge"', and let's Shadow stay there after she finds him in the Gimme Shelter. She gets Sonic to establish a Link between her and Emerl, and through that Link, she intends to make Emerl the "ultimate robot thief". #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ $# Knuckles the Echidna #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ Knuckles is the guardian of the Master Emerald (though not too much emphasis is put on that in this game). He is quick to act, and easily tricked; the latter trait being something which Eggman exploits repeatedly, in this and many other 'Sonic the Hedgehog' games. #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ $# Amy Rose #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ Amy's a hedgehog like Sonic, and speaking of Sonic, she's absolutely obsessed with him (it seems more obvious here than the other games, somehow). She is also on a new diet program that involves a routine called "boxercise"; which she makes Cream do with her. Once Emerl starts learning to talk better, Amy gets him to help her with measuring weight loss and such. When Amy first met Emerl, she thought that Sonic got him as practice for their (Sonic & Amy's) eventual baby. #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ $# Cream the Rabbit #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ Cream is friends with a Chao named Cheese, and lives with Amy in an apartment in Central City. Amy tends to force Creamr to workout with her during her "boxercising" sessions - something which Cream doesn't like at all. Being a very anti-violence person (...animal), Cream refuses to fight, because she doesn't like it when people are sad or hurt. But when Emerl got nearly killed by not fighting (he was trying not to upset Cream), she decided she should fight also, so that he wouldn't come to harm. #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$# $# Shadow the Hedgehog #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$# Shadow originally appeared in Sonic Adventure 2, and at the end, he fell from outer space due to wearing out his Super Form in the battle with BioLizard (the prototype of the Ultimate Life Form). It was assumed that he had died, but then he reappeared in Sonic Heroes. There, he was sealed inside a capsule in one of Eggman's bases, and Rouge and Omega set him free (Omega doing his part in a roundabout way). At the end of the Dark Story, Rouge and Omega found a room full of Shadow clones on the Egg Fleet. Rouge was depressed, thinking that the Shadow she found was a fake, but then Omega said, "You know the thing about cloning... the original must exist somewhere." As Eggman revealed in Shadow the Hedgehog, the Shadow in SA2, SH, ShTH, and SB were all the same one (the original). After Shadow fell from space, Eggman sent one of his robots to save him - he just lost his memories is all. Also told in ShTH, is that Shadow was created by both Gerald Robotnik (who we knew about before), and Black Doom. Doom helped Gerald with Project Shadow by infusing him (Shadow) with his own blood, and in exchange, asked Gerald to one day have Shadow give him the Chaos Emeralds. He wanted them so that, when the Black Comet returned in fifty years, he could teleport it down to the surface of the Earth. In Sonic Battle, Shadow says that, as a weapon of war, he should be ruthless; thus he wonders why it was that Gerald gave him a heart. Rouge found a document that Gerald has written, which described that he (Gerald) wasn't interested in making weapons, but rather mere living beings. He hoped that no matter how corrupt the users of weapons would become, the weapons themselves would remain pure and not yield to their nature. This is why he gave both Shadow and Gizoid pieces of Maria's soul. #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$# $# Chaos Gamma #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$# Chaos Gamma is an E-102 Gamma look-alike, but despite the resemblance and being created from related parts, he is not him. CG wants revenge on Emerl for taking his Chaos Emerald/shard away from him. #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ $# Gizoid / Emerl #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ Emerl, as Sonic names him, is a robot that Gerald found in a ruin that was made made by an ancient civilization. He was constructed for war and was given the ability to absorb weaponry; or as Gizoid said it, "I represent all things." While Emerl and Gizoid are simply different names for the same robot, they can also be used to compare his personalities. "Emerl" is the cocky, arrogant robot that Sonic has grown to know; "Gizoid" is the weapon of war that was made in the ancient past. Gizoid is capable of establishing a "Link" with the first person who shows it their power; though that Link can be overridden should someone of greater strength show themselves to Gizoid. Also, whoever initiated the original Link has the aptitude to command the Gizoid to create other Links, granted that the new ones won't be to the same extent at the first. When Gerald found Gizoid, he was unable to completely erase its destructive side, so to keep it from harming the world he put into place an alternate method of removing it; if Gizoid were to ever acquire the seven Chaos Emeralds and expose the violent side of its being, the weapon aspect could be expunged by ordering Gizoid to, "Bring hope to humanity". Those were the last words that Maria said when she died aboard the ARK, so that's what Gerald decided to use for the password. However, he took some of Gizoid's data and used it to create "Phi"; numerous silver copies of Gizoid. Later he realized that he shouldn't have been so brash with him, but by then Sonic had already established a Link, so there was nothing he could do. Eggman's goal this time around is to activate the Final Egg Blaster, which is an immensely powerful cannon inside the Death Egg. #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$# $# Gerald Robotnik #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$# Gerald was a scientist, and was both Eggman and Maria's grandfather. He lived aboard the first Bernoulli space-colony named "ARK"; which, at the time of its creation, was the most advanced research center of its kind. Not very many people were aware, but Gerald and the others on the Colony were secretly developing powerful weapons - among them, a laser with the capability to decimate an entire planet; codenamed as, "The Eclipse Cannon". He was developing that Cannon because of his meeting with Black Doom some time prior. Back then, he was working on "Project Shadow" (a.k.a. the Ultimate Life Form), which was intended to be an immortal being who could possibly be a cure for Maria, but he needed help. So he asked Black Doom for his assistance, and Doom agreed under a condition - that in the future, Shadow would give the seven Chaos Emeralds to him. Gerald said he would, and so Doom used his blood to bring Shadow the Hedgehog to life. What Gerald didn't know, was that Doom wanted the Emeralds so that he could teleport the "Black Comet" down to Earth, and eradicate the humans. So, in an attempt to lessen the effects of the arrangement, Gerald began construction of the Eclipse Cannon. (He intended for it to be used to obliterate the Comet). But when GUN shut down the laboratory, and Maria died, Gerald went insane; she was the only thing he had left to live for, and with her gone, his life was meaningless. He made modifications to the Eclipse Cannon's programming, so that if its power were ever boosted by all the Chaos Emeralds, it would begin a descent towards Earth, and destroy the planet. He also installed a safeguard; should anyone try to deactivate the program, the BioLizard - the prototype of the Ultimate Life Form - would attach itself to the ARK, and override its controls, thus making it impossible to alter its course. As was detailed in this game, Gerald never wanted to make weapons for war. So when the government forced him to use his abilities to create weapons, he took his own initiative and infused them with hearts; both Shadow and the Gizoid were given fragments of Maria's soul. #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ $# Maria Robotnik #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ Fifty years ago, Maria lived on the ARK with her grandfather, and befriended one of his research projects; the Ultimate Life Form, "Shadow". At that time, Maria was suffering from a terminal illness called NIDS, and would eventually die from it; Shadow was created in Gerald's study on immortality, and was intended to, if successful, be the finding of a cure for Maria. When GUN invaded the space colony and killed everyone who knew about Project Shadow, she was brought near-death. She managed to get Shadow inside an escape pod, and launch him out of the colony, despite him wanting to stay with her. Before she died, she said the following as her last words... "Shadow... I beg of you... please, do it for me... for a better future... for all the people who live on that planet... give them a chance to be happy. Let them live for their dreams. Shadow, I know you can do it. That's the reason that you were brought into this world. They are silver in color, and their vocabulary is limited to "Destroy!" and similar words. #$#$#$#$#$#$# $# Chaos #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$# Chaos originally appeared in Sonic Adventure 1 as the guardian of the Chao and the Master/Chaos Emerald/s. When the Echidnas came to the shrine to take the Emeralds, they hurt the Chao there as well; at which point Chaos went berserk. Tikal sealed it inside the Master Emerald so that it wouldn't harm the world. Later on, Chaos somehow escaped the ME and Eggman took control of him. After it acquired all the Chaos Emeralds and became "Perfect Chaos", as well as rebuking Eggman's grasp on him, he was defeated by Sonic in his Super form. Tikal then descended from the sky and took Chaos with her into the afterlife. Somehow, he has returned again in SB for a fairly brief cameo/fight. The only way that could work is if after Sonic Heroes (in which Shadow had amnesia), he suddenly remembered everything, then forgot it again after Battle, and THEN remembered his past AGAIN in ShTH. Throughout Battle, Shadow's recovering from an injury. What injury? I would assume it was from falling from the ARK in SA2 (there wasn't really anything else it could've been), but since Battle happens after ShTH (IF it occurs at all), he wouldn't have anything to recover _from_ (because by the time ShTH happened, he didn't seem to still be injured from falling. 3. (Note: This reason is debatable since it makes an assumption) Battle and ShTH give different circumstances leading up to Maria's death. In ShTH, Maria died after the level Lost Impact; the Artificial Chaos were running rampant and destroying sections of the ARK. After the mission was completed, we saw Maria falling in the research facility (after being shot and putting Shadow in the escape capsule). In Battle, Gerald's Journal #6 says... "My worst fears have come true. The Gizoid has absorbed enough weaponry and technology that it has started to go out of control. The resulting rampage resulted in the destruction of most of the "Ark."" Then in Journal #7... "I have heard there was an accident at the research facility. ... ... ... Everything... Everything is gone. My own Maria's name was among the list of casualties." While it doesn't say _exactly_ that the 'accident at the research facility' was Gizoid's doing, it's relatively safe to assume that, since they were only one Journal apart, it took that long for word of Maria's death (via the events of entry #6) to reach Gerald. Also, if the accident Battle spoke of was the Artificial Chaos' doing, I'd have expected a mention of the AC somewhere in the Journal. #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ $# 04: Possible counterargument to "2." (1) #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ Since Shadow was using the Chaos Emeralds for the entirety of ShTH, you could say that it was thanks to them that he wasn't all injured and everything until Battle, where he fought with just one Emerald and against stronger individual opponents. However, think about this... In SA2's ending, he was weak from fighting BioLizard, thus he fell from space due to wearing out his Super form. I'd assume that, if falling was what made him so weak in Battle, that he'd be even weaker in ShTH (since it precedes Battle); but yet he managed to beat Devil Doom effortlessly - something he couldn't do in SA2 (that is, keep his Super form active). Further, even with Sonic's help, Shadow wasn't strong enough in SA2 to maintain his Super Form when he and Sonic teleported the ARK away - yet in ShTH, he successfully warps the Black Comet without ANY help at all. My point? Shadow utilized his Super form better in ShTH than SA2 - it was fatigue that held him back in SA2; I take his improved performance in ShTH as a sign that he wasn't weak at all from anything, or at the very least that he was _less_ weak. Thus, it makes no sense why he would go on to Battle, in which he was weaker than in either SA2 or ShTH - even to the point of being told that he knew he wasn't well enough yet to be fighting. #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$ $# 05: Possible counterargument to "2." I doubt that that's why he fell, though, because several times during the fight, other characters would comment about how he and Sonic were running out of energy/Rings; thus, THAT appears more likely, as it's what the characters themselves were saying. Of course, there is the chance that he WAS running out of energy/Rings, but actually fell because of lack of familiarity... it just seems more probable that it was energy loss. #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$# $# 06: Possible counterargument to "05:" #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$# Some people have said that the reason Shadow performed so well in ShTH's end was because he had been building up his strength throughout the game, and then he wore out that power by fighting Devil Doom and using Chaos Control on the Black Comet, thus why he was so weak in Battle. However... Shadow seemed totally unfazed after fighting Devil Doom; I find it unlikely that he built up his strength before facing DD, exhausted said strength by fighting him, showed no signs of using up all his energy, but then DID make it glaringly obvious by the time Battle rolled around. It seems like, if this argument is true, that Shadow should have been a tad bit more tired immediately after both fighting Devil Doom and CC'ing the Comet. #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$# $# 07: Sonic Advance 3 #$ #$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$#$# One of the more common reasons used in arguments to (try to) prove that Battle is canon is the fact that in Sonic Advance 3 (Sa3), there is a robot that Eggman constructed which looks like Emerl (similar to the Phi, but it's got a bit more color); so then people think that if Battle isn't canon, Sa3 can't be either, and Sega just wouldn't do that or something. That is not a very good reasoning, though, as if Sa3 weren't canon, it really wouldn't affect anything in a major way - nothing noteworthy happened in Sa3, thus it's all too easy to remove it from the official timeline. However, there is a retort to that: Sonic Advance 2 WAS, indisputably, canon, because it introduced Cream, and she reappeared multiple times in other canon games - thus, some people have said that if Sa2 was canon, Sa3 must also be, therefore Battle is as well. The problem with that logic is that there is no reason that just because one part of a series is canon, another related part has to be. Take Shadow the Hedgehog's ten endings that have to be acquired before gaining access to Last Story, for instance: in three of them, Shadow fights and defeats Black Doom. That cannot be a canon ending, as in Last Story, Black Doom acts as if it never happened and still seems to think Shadow wants to help him.
