The Wetherbird is a stone bird that you can buy in the thieves town.
To get into the Dark World beat Agaghnim in the castle.

To get to the sixth level in the dark world, you must use the flute in front of the bird statue in the city... Use the flute to fly to the spot on the map near where you get the second pendant. Lift one of the stones, and there should be a portal to the dark world. Now, you can just traverse across the swamp into Level 6.
