Question for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

At the waterfall it only lets me throw arrows and bombs not shield or sword. what's up with that?

Which waterfall are you at? The magic waterfall with the fairy inside that when you throw stuff in she gives it back sometimes better? You can throw in your sheild to get the magic sheild. But the sword can't be changed by that fairy. The sword is changed by the fairy in the golden pyramid when you can get the big bomb and have lv 3 sword. The shield will be red after you upgrade it. Then later you'll get the mirror sheild.

The first fairy will upgrade your shield to a no.2 and your boomerang from blue to red (in other words it will now go across the whole screen).

This fairy is located at the waterfall just before Zorahs domain. To upgrade your Level 3 sword to a L4 and your arrows to silver arrows, go to the Pyramid and blow a hole in the cracked wall with the super bomb.

It will cost you 100 rupies at the shop in the dark world where your house is in the light world.
