AR is a system (not sponsored or endorsed by Nintendo) that allows a player to mess with the game programming and allow things that shouldn't usually occur.
It's possible to fix certain values like making unlimited coins, HP, creating items and so on. The codes are usually pre-made and ready to be entered in the Action replay. However, with great hacking skills you can create your own cheats. Ok?
There are also Game genie, gameshark, codebreaker which are basically the same as Action replay. Most Nintendo emulators have an inbuilt Action replay ready to use.
Hope this answers your question. Remember that you must have one of these systems (you can buy them) if you want to use the codes.
