Question for Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones

I don't understand the part in the game where you have Elemental affinity! Question, if you have a guy that his affin is lightning, to support him do you need to hang around another lightning guy or a dark, light,,,,,,,,,,, ect. Person???????

Also include some poeple that support each other. thank you if you answer Cormag

I think the elemental affinity determines the TYPE of support a character can give (e.g. Higher defence, better accuracy), don't quote me on that though, there are so many people out there with way more knowledge about the dynamics of this game. I do know that the characters that support each other are those that have a history together, that is, they're siblings, or they're friends, or they're a friend of a friend (you get the idea).
