Question for Pokemon Yellow

Hey, can your Pokemon on yellow version learn waterfall ?

Because I got a magikarp that knew it and I thought you could only get it on Gold Silver and Crystal.

How could your magickarp know it?It can't learn any HM/TM moves.

BrEaK_cOmPaNy answered:

Thats impossible man because this game is older than silver gold or crystal.

Sorry man don't waste your time playing this game !

Gaz_With_Fangs answered:

Well, I've never had a Pokemon on Yellow (Or Red or Blue, for that matter) that knew the move Waterfall. However, I do remember seeing one of my enemys that had a Goldeen use Waterfall on Pokemon Stadium. I think Pokemon can learn Waterfall on the old games, except it works like a TM, not an HM. Since I've never owned a Pokemon that knew Waterfall on the old games, I don't know if trading one to G/S/C would make it an HM move, or if it would remain a TM-like move, and vice-versa. You should experiment or something, maybe you've discovered an easy way to learn the Waterfall HM?

Kenny 2x4 answered:

Yep, Waterfall is accessable in Yellow, though it is a rare move.

Zelda Fan answered:

You teach it with a HM.

Umbreon_girl answered:

Thats weird, Pokemon in Yellow, Blue or Red shouldn't know waterfall. Mostly because I tried to Trade a Pokemon that knew water from my gold version to my Yellow version and it wouldn't let me. But waterfall was ment to be on the orginal Pokemon games along with a few other moves, maybe your game is glitched? Also using somekind of game shark would cause a Pokemon to know a move it's not ment too (from experance).

jamgilbert answered:

In yellow, there are only 5 hms, cut,Flash,Surf,Strength and fly. Waterfall was only made a hm in gold and silver so your magikarp can't of learnt it and magikarp can't take hms or tms.

king galbatorix answered:

Actually it can but to get any Pokemon to learn it you need to use a BrainBoy which is about 10 years old. It does work but it may put Glitches on your game. They are now EXTREMELY rare to find. But if you can manage to find one you are extremely lucky. I recommend looking on www.amazon.com or www.pelicanacc.com. Hope I helped.

Peace out dudes.

staticshock answered:

Waterfall is a move in yellow, you were probably getting whirlpool and waterfall mixed up if just how you are getting seaking and magicarp mixed up , cause they are both fish so that's why your saying magicarp , really you mean golden learns the waterfall attack at level 37 and as a seaking at 39 , it's a move that can be sent through the time machine as it exists in r/b/y even Pokemon green has waterfall , it's ust not a permanent hm move til gen2 , it looks though they were gong to use it and earthquake as hms originally in the beta 9think about the waterfall in seafoam islands , the event for cysstal had that waterfall in it and needed th hm for Articuno in the jap crystal too ) , this all suggests it was guna be instead of the strength puzzle in sefoam gen1 , idk why they decided to sav it for gen2 and use strength instead? Maybe due to the non availabiity of many accurate and good normal attacks like body slam hence strength was born maybe the eq thing , if you look aat rbgy roms , it's got a string of text about the ground rising up and the ???? Glitch beta item not surfboard the other has that text assigned to it and it can reveal a ladder puzzle to a Mew in victory road if you reprogram that hm backinto the game, theirs a lot of things ppl don't know about yellow , because we wre all kids so we don't remember every last move but yes waterfall is an attack in gen1 and 2 and becomes a hm in gen2

I transferred a Jolteon from silver to Pokemon yellow as a kid and it traded with the move waterfall.
