Hi, I wonder if I can evolve growlithe to arcanine without fire stone, I havent beaten the elite 4 yet, and my team is:
 Growlithe LV 45
 Feraligatr LV 46
 Meganium LV 50
 Typlosion LV 42
 Dratini LV 20
 Gyarados LV 35 (red)
 
 Is this a good team?
 
 I also need to know where to find shining onix! And how?

Nope. Only with a fire stone. Team's alright, though Gyrados is better off changed for an electric.

Shinies are find randomly. If you're lucky, you'll find an Onix.

We need your movesets in order to rate, and i'd suggets levelling them all to level 55 - 65.

Shiny Pokemon are random, so you'll just have to be very lucky.

No you can only evolve Growlithe into Arcanine with a Fire Stone. Although Vulpix evolves into Ninetales by level, mine did. Nintales is a good Fire type.

As for your team, I'm not going to rate it because you haven't posted MOVESETS. Although you should train up Dratini and Gyarados to the level of the others. Some good choices, although Meganium is not very good. Grass pokémon are not good in Gold/Silver/Crystal except in parts of Kanto. Get Alakazaam instead.

Go to anywhere Onix appears and hope for the best. Shinies are very rare, you won't come accross them very often.

You'll never beat the elite four with that team train up the 3 original Pokemon feraligator.... To lvl 50 then have a thunder Pokemon I recommend dratini hes not a thunder Pokemon but hes pretty good and ya if you can catch Lugia and ho oh you'l beat elite four easy if you have Lugia and ho oh on you're team

Sorry but you need a fire stone to evolve growlithe.
It is a good team just train them a bit more.
Finding a shiny onix is jus by luck.
