Crisis Core is a wonderful addition to the saga of Final Fantasy.
The story revolves around 7 years before Final Fantasy VII with the 2nd class SOLDIER Zack Fair. He aspires to become a 1st Class along with being a Hero. In doing this he discovers the truth behind experiments done in the Shinra field and how they can corrupt some and not others. His stories intertwines with those such as; Angeal, Sephiroth, Genesis, and even Cloud.
Graphics are absolutely amazing compared to other previous games. Not only are the cutscenes breath-taking but so are the various sceneries and actual gameplay graphics.
The cutscenes are just like any Final Fantasy game. They go into a sort of "pretty" or "real life" mode. For the PSP the graphics for this "pretty" or "real life" mode are mesmerizing.
I do admit that the voice actors for the American version didn't do a great job with some of their roles. But overlooking that, the attitude put forth and intertwined into the voice surpasses those that didn't do so great.
The sounds are very well done, making you feel like you're right there. From the sound of walking to breathing to rain. I personally felt like I was there with Zack the whole way.
Crisis Core is very similar to Kingdom Hearts with the fact that you have commands such as attack, magic, and extra abilities. But there were some additions.
One is the AP bar which relates to the ability to evade attacks such as magic, which couldn't be done before, and pyshical attacks.
The most important addition is the DMW, or the Digital Mind Wave. This focuses on Zack emotions one could say. It's a roulette wheel which determines which special/limit breaks/attacks and summons are used. The DMW also designates whether Zack levels up or if an ability or magic does. It's very vast and there are many options making the gameplay more easy to handle.
Honestly I wish the story line itself was a bit longer. But it did follow what was expected. It lasts for about 10-15 hours while doing missions may add another 10 or 15. But that does depend on how long the player decides to spend in an area and excavate.
Any who I would say Square Enix really out did themselves on this marvelous PSP game. There's no better way than diving into a game/story with style, which Crisis Core has. I would say that personally, buying this game is worth it because renting just won't suffice.
