The Story

Because this is a sequel and so much of what takes place in it is connected to the previous game, that is where we have to start, and that story begins with the arrival of a group of Vault Hunters on the planet of Pandora, where they find that rumors of the presence of a hidden vualt are true, but the world of Pandora is not exactly ready to embrace Vault Hunters beyond what they can squeeze out of them in profits. Which is ironic because in the process of hunting down the location of the hidden vault the group helped rid the world of a massive pile of bad people, and when they opened the vault they released - and killed - a monster of epic proportions.

One way of looking at that is that they did a good thing... Sadly it turned out that the happy ending that should have been theirs to claim did not quite work out. A pyscopathic corporate suit named Handsome Jack took credit for finding the vault and for killing the monster, and what is worse, the new ore called Eridium that was unleashed by the defeat of the vault monster provided Jack with the resources he needed to take over Hyperion Corporation. Call it a winning defeat.

In the five years that fly by between the end of the last game and the start of this one a lot of things have happened. Handsome Jack took over Hyperion, launched a huge satellite base that orbits in front of the moon that is shaped like a giant H and practically enslaved the planet's population. Rumors of a new and even larger vault just packed with wealth have been circulating, and Vault Hunters all over the galaxy have been coming to Pandora in hopes of finding that vault!

Unfortunately for them Handsome Jack has also heard those rumors, and Jack does not like competition. So whenever a new group of Vault Hunters arrives, he lures them to some out of the way location and kills them with his lethal robot minions from Hyperion Corporation! Just considers that a good neighbor policy, and when our group arrives on planet he does the same, but things go sideways when the last Claptrap robot left operational on the planet - a Claptrap with a reason to hate Handsome Jack - finds and rescues the Vault Hunters, taking them on as his minions and explaining his plan to begin taking vengeance upon Jack... And some other miscreants.

If you have not played the previous game you now have the two-minute breifing and, combined with the intense opening CS for the game, should have a very good handle on what is going on!
