Not only is the Lego City Undercover the first Lego game by Traveler’s Tales to not feature a comic book license or a major movie, but it is also the first major Wii U game developed in 2013. This game is an enormous, open-world adventure featuring versions of infinite LEGO construction sets.

However, if you can get past all the commercialism and branding, you will find a fun, friendly game with a winning protagonist who is good, witty, fallible, charming and never uses lethal force.

Legal City Undercover promotes discovery, imagination and exploration in a colorful and cartoonish world which feels like the world’s biggest LEGO collection come to live. The game is also loaded with adorable flights of fancy. There are costumes to collect and towers to climb and completing these tasks is full of pleasure. The puzzles are not very hard but feel satisfying because they require so many costume changes. The Glee is enhanced by the game’s attitude such as when a puzzle concludes with you firing a pig from a cannon.

You play as a police officer named McCain, and you’ll play alone. You are technically always Chase but can swap through eight core character types: farmer, police officer, astronaut, miner, robber and a few others.
