Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is the prime example of how to do open-world superhero action right. This game is also an excellent showcase of how far the Lego game engine has come from the problematic camera and screen-tearing of the first Lego Star Wars to a glittering, detailed cityscape with a nice line in dramatic sunsets and a random weather cycle.

The plot starts with Lex Luther, US presidential candidate and Bruce Wayne arriving at a ceremony for the Man of the Year Award. Bruce Wayne beats Luther, but just he is about to accept the reward, a number of Batman villains and the Joker crash the party and help themselves with the belongings of everyone in the attendance. Bryce switches his tux for his Batman briefs and along with Robin, chases after the Joke. On the contrary, Lex notes the Joker’s ability to create mind-altering gas, and he decides that Lex might make valuable assets in his bid for the state house.

This game was also the first in Lego history to have actual voice acting, which was incredibly well done. The game's primary challenge lies in its wondrous sense of discovery. Each level, the player visits n their first play-thought is filled with items that are out of reach for characters they are playing with, beckoning them back when they have unlocked a few more.
