Pokemon is a massive franchise. It is the second-best selling video game franchise of all time, second only to Mario. To date there are over 15 games made in the Pokemon series. Every year or so there's a new version coming out with updated graphics, new Pokemon and a slightly differing storyline however at the end of the day after you've played one you've practically played them all.

Every one of them starts with the main character picking a Pokemon of choice from a friend or professor who lives in your town. You get to choose from one of types, usually water, fire or plant. From there you go on to train your Pokemon to level up and become the stronger as you set out to catch every single Pokemon out there.

At present there are over 600 different Pokemon in the entire Pokemon Universe so catching them all is not a light task. It will take you hours of searching in dark caves, sunken ships and in wide open fields all the while being accosted by wild Pokemon and other trainers looking to test their might against you.
