Top 10 Best Retro Games

6) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)

Ocarina of Time is one of those games that pretty much everybody loved. It is considered by many to be the cornerstone of the Zelda franchise. Mention old school Legend of Zelda to most people, and Ocarina of Time is probably going to be the game they immediately start thinking of. Zelda as a franchise has a pretty hardcore fan following and Ocarina of Time is the best-selling game in the franchise with 7.6 million copies sold according to official statistics announced by Nintendo in 2004 (the original Legend of Zelda on NES is second with 6.51 million).

Ocarina of Time was an epic journey especially if you were just a kid when it came out in 1998. From working your way through the various elemental temples to finding all the golden skulltulas, the game was fun from start to finish. Everybody has a favorite memory with this game. Mine is sitting around The Fishing Hole for hours trying to catch that monster at the bottom of the pond (and doing it). Some other memories that personally come to mind when I think of Ocarina of Time include Goron City, The Great Deku Tree, and for whatever reason, Lon Lon Ranch.

5) Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation)

Metal Gear Solid may not have been the first Metal Gear game, but it is without a doubt the best. This game really put the Metal Gear series on the map and gave it an identity. Another nice thing is that players could actually follow and understand the storyline in this game while in subsequent entries into the series things started to get a little too convoluted. Seeing as how Metal Gear games are almost like playing an interactive movie, being able to follow the plot is very important.

Aside from Decoy Octopus who could apparently shape shift into anybody he wanted, the bosses in this game didn't have crazy super powers like bosses in later games. This helped makes things a little more believable. The whole game had a “Die Hard” feeling to it.

I previously touched on Jon St. John's voice acting abilities as Duke Nukem and another potential Video Game Voice Actor Hall of Fame inductee would be David Hayter for voicing Solid Snake. Although he sometimes make Snake sound comically gruff, fans loved Hayter and were extremely disappointed to see him not reprising his role in the newest Metal Gear game.

To be honest, the graphics on Metal Gear Solid are actually still really good. You could go back and play this game right now and the graphics would hold up. They also released a GameCube remake called The Twin Snakes which had improved graphics and new cutscenes but there is nothing like playing the original. It was one of the top ten best selling PlayStation games for a reason! If you haven't played Metal Gear Solid, this is one game on the list you need to go back and play.
