Top 10 Best Retro Games

8) Duke Nukem 3D (PC)

Considered one of the all-time classic FPS games, Duke Nukem 3D probably tainted an entire generation of kids' minds with its extremely violent and sexualized gameplay. How many kids got to the strip club level and then stood there repeatedly handing dancers $100 bills take their tops off?

In addition to the massive raunch factor, Duke Nukem 3D had very solid gameplay mechanics. It also had some of the coolest weapons ever. Jon St. John's voice of Duke Nukem has become legendary in the gaming industry (if there was a Hall of Fame for video game voice actors, Jon St. John would definitely be one of the first inductees). Almost everything Duke says in this game is either hilarious or became an instant catchphrase. Yeah, come get some!

Duke Nukem 3D originally came out in 1996 and remained so well loved by gamers that the 2011 sequel, Duke Nukem Forever, was one of the year's most highly anticipated titles. Despite being in development for 15 years, it failed miserably both in sales and in meeting the admittedly lofty expectations of fans.

7) Doom II (PC)

Doom II is another classic first person shooter from the 90's (it came out in 1994) and another gory game. Why is it that shooters never seem to have any blood and gore in them anymore? I mean just look at that Imp getting blown away!

Doom II took everything that the original Doom did well and just made it better. For example, Doom II had literally double the number of enemy types as the first game. Doom II also doubled the number of shotgun barrels in the game by introducing the double barreled Super Shotgun which became one of the most often used weapons. It's hard hitting stopping power combined with the abundance of ammunition found around most levels made it a weapon that you could rely on for most of the game. Doom II also had vastly improved multiplayer functionality.

Doom II deserves a spot on this list because it helped shape the FPS genre into what it is today. Sometimes you can even hear the door opening sound effect from the Doom games in movies, TV shows, or other games.
