06. Fallout 3 (2008 Bethesda)

The Fallout games have all had good Intros to them but with F3 they took things a step beyond, opening with a music-backed tour of the waste and then cutting to an abbreviated version of the traditional war narrative, but it was the ballsy decision to include you emerging from between your mother's legs that really made this one stand out.

I mean really -- how often do you get to see your character being born -- from the point-of-view of your character?!

Once that happens the Intro ends and the character creation process begins, and the sum total of having experienced the Intro is just wanting the character creation process to be over quickly so you can play! In the wastelands... Yeah...

05. Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009 Rocksteady)

Considering that this is THE game that finally, after many years and many failures, brought a real and genuine feel to the superhero genre! And hey, this one begins with Batman finally having succeeded in capturing the Joker! Or has he? Once you get the J-Man into the Asylum you learn just how wrong that was...
