08. Final Fantasy VIII (1999 Square)
Not only the best cinematic opening of any game in the FF series, it may very well be the best cinematic in video games -- particularly if you like awesome scenery with an opera overtone.
But then you have magic... And a sword fight... And wry glances from too-cute boys who you have to sort of wonder about, you know... Well, take that and combine it with the beach, blue skies and sunshine and the first thing you are asking yourself is where are the Volleyball Girls?
07. The Last of Us (2013 Naughty Dog)
When things get tough, the tough get... Dead. And so it seems do the weak as the massively emotional cinematic opening of The Last of Us clearly communicates. It takes a lot of guts to create a game Intro this long and then kill off a character in the process, but that was sort of the point. Your grief and loss are supposed to motivate you, right? But against who?

Onimusha 3. Best opening cinematic ever!
Mass Effect 2's opening sequence, including Shepard's death and revival, was far superior to Mass Effect 3's opening sequence. You actually watch your character die in part 2 and get revived after; nothing can top that.
